Ekta Vishnoi's Journey to Powerlifting Glory and Fitness Advocacy
In a world where many contemplate retirement by the age of 50, Ekta Vishnoi stands as a beacon of determination and resilience. A senior bureaucrat in Delhi, she has shattered stereotypes and rewritten the norms of age and fitness. Ekta Vishnoi, Deputy Director General at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and a driving force behind India's Fit India Movement, has not only excelled in administrative roles but has also carved a remarkable niche in the competitive arena of powerlifting.
At the recent National Senior Powerlifting Championship held in Hyderabad, Vishnoi astounded spectators by clinching multiple medals and setting new records. Competing against athletes half her age, she secured a Silver in deadlift with a staggering 165kg lift and a Bronze overall with impressive lifts of 132.5 kg in squat, 70 kg in bench press, and another 165 kg in deadlift. Her performance not only secured victories but also shattered existing records in the Master 2 category, solidifying her as a force to be reckoned with in the powerlifting community.
Ekta Vishnoi's journey to sporting glory began earlier with notable achievements in national and international arenas. She had previously triumphed in the National Masters Powerlifting Championship, claiming the gold medal. Her prowess extended to the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship and Asian Powerlifting Championship in 2022, where she proudly secured gold and silver medals. Recognizing her outstanding contributions, she was honored with a certificate of distinction by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman in 2023.
Beyond her achievements as an athlete, Ekta Vishnoi plays a pivotal role in shaping India's fitness landscape. As the Mission Director of the Fit India Movement and overseeing the prestigious Khelo India Scheme, she tirelessly works towards fostering a culture of fitness and sportsmanship across the nation. Her leadership aims to transform India into a nation where every citizen embraces fitness as a way of life.
Looking ahead, Ekta Vishnoi sets her sights on the World Masters Powerlifting Championship scheduled in South Africa later this year. Her goal is clear: to represent India on the global stage and add to her impressive tally of international medals. Her journey serves as an inspiration, not only for athletes and fitness enthusiasts but for anyone striving to defy limits and achieve greatness.
Ekta Vishnoi's story is a testament to the power of perseverance, passion, and dedication. It exemplifies how age should never be a barrier to pursuing one's dreams and making a profound impact in society. As she continues to break records and lead initiatives that promote fitness nationwide, Ekta Vishnoi stands as a true champion of both athleticism and advocacy, leaving an indelible mark on India's sporting history and inspiring generations to come.
