Four Injured in Phoenix Crash as Car Sinks into Mud Near Desert Sky Mall
PHOENIX - A crash on Wednesday morning resulted in a car sinking into a mud pit near Desert Sky Mall, injuring four people. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on May 8, near 75th and Virginia Avenues.
Phoenix Police report that a woman was critically injured and taken to the hospital, while three others sustained minor injuries, according to Phoenix Fire.
SkyFOX aerial footage captured two vehicles at the scene—one heavily damaged at the front and another sinking into the mud. Police said that a fire hydrant was struck in the crash, flooding the area and creating the mud pit.
One nearby orthodontist had to cancel appointments due to a water outage, while people working and shopping in the vicinity were stunned by the aftermath.
"I came into the office this morning, and there was no parking because the whole area was flooded," said Devin Friebe.
"I've only seen things like this on the news, so seeing it in person is, like, whoa!" added Marlene Friebe.
The intersection remains closed as police investigate the cause of the crash.
