This incident unfolded as the ship was en route to Freeport, having canceled a scheduled stop at Princess Cay due to unfavorable weather conditions.

According to a statement issued by Carnival Cruise Line, the fire erupted on the port side of the ship's exhaust funnel, causing a portion of it to collapse onto the deck. In response to the emergency, the captain swiftly altered the vessel's course, steering it towards an area experiencing heavy rainfall. This strategic maneuver aimed to utilize the rain to aid in extinguishing the flames and mitigating the situation.
